New Mexico Can Build Stronger TNR Laws for Community Cats
TNR laws are gaining support nationwide as states recognize Trap-Neuter-Return as a humane way to manage community cats. At least seven states now have TNR-specific laws, protections, or funding policies.
New Mexico already has strong local TNR work through Street Cat Hub and community partners, but statewide law needs clarity. Clear TNR laws would protect cats, support caregivers, reduce shelter intake, and make TNR the standard across New Mexico.
Volunteer Spotlight: Ann Antaramian-Feightner
Ann Antaramian-Feightner volunteers at Street Cat Hub, helping with medical data entry, post-op, and recovery. She loves the cats, the people, and that every day brings something new.
Pete’s Second Chance
Pete came to Street Cat Hub sick, scarred, and barely hanging on after years of surviving outside.
Now he is safe, warm, eating well, and finally getting the care he always deserved.
His story is a reminder that TNR prevents suffering, not just kittens.
The First Two Weeks of June at Street Cat Hub
The first two weeks of June brought more than 220 cats through Street Cat Hub, including 193 surgeries and a wave of sick kittens needing care.
From hoarding house kittens to trapped mama cats giving birth, the need has not slowed down.
Every donation of food, supplies, or funds helps us keep caring for the next cat who comes through our doors.
Kitten Season Is Here. TNR Matters.
Kitten season and TNR are directly connected.
In the first two weeks of June, Street Cat Hub received more than 35 kittens, many born outdoors into risk and illness.
TNR helps stop the cycle before more kittens are born outside.
Meow of the Month: Alistair’s Story of Healing and Hope
Alistair is Street Cat HUB’s Meow of the Month for May. He came to us from a rural New Mexico hoarding situation where he had been living with close to 100 cats and three dogs. Found hiding inside the walls, Alistair was scared, uncomfortable, and suffering from a severe skin condition that caused intense scratching and fur loss.
Today, Alistair is healing under medical care, his black long fur is growing back, and Nine Lives Rescue NM is helping him find a medical foster or experienced adopter. His story shows why TNR work matters, and why rescue partnerships give vulnerable cats the second chance they deserve.
