We are here to help and to provide caretakers and self-trappers with the tools they need to successfully Trap, Neuter and Return Community Cats. We offer Trap Loans and Trapping Classes. If you have your own trap, we recommend you consult with our team to ensure it is the right size and meets criteria for humane trapping and safe handling. We use and recommend TruCatch 30LTD.

  1. Submit a TNR Request here or call our message line at (505) 247-9357.

  2. Schedule a surgery drop-off appointment by clicking the Surgery Drop-Off Appointment link sent via email. Check your SPAM folder for our reply!

  3. If you need to borrow traps, they can be picked up on the Saturday before your appointment between the hours of 11am and 2pm. DO NOT FEED and remove all remaining food before coming to pick up traps. Get enough traps to bring in ALL of the cats at your location.

  4. Begin trapping the night before or the morning of the scheduled appointment, depending on the cats’ normal feeding time.

  5. Do not feed the entire time you are trapping. Cats will not go into traps if they are not hungry and sometimes this can take several days.

  6. Once trapped, move the traps out of the area and into the shade, garage, shed or bathroom until your scheduled drop-off time. Never leave a trapped cat unattended in the heat, hard rain or extreme cold and please protect the cat(s) from any potential predators.

  7. Protect your vehicle with a tarp, trash bags or cardboard. This will protect its interior from potential cat urine or feces during transport.

  8. Transport cat(s) to Street Cat HUB for their scheduled drop-off time.

  9. Please check in once you arrive to our facility. You will be advised when to bring your cats into the lobby; only one group of cats will be processed at a time. A Street Cat HUB associate will assist you and get the cats processed for their spay/neuter and vaccine services and schedule a pick-up date and time.

  10. DON’T STOP TRAPPING! Do not feed and continue trapping any remaining cats and bringing them in between 10am and 12pm on Monday and Tuesday.

  11. DO NOT TRAP after 12pm on Tuesday! You will need to make an appointment for another week for any remaining cats.

Once you pick up the cat(s) from Street Cat HUB, return them to their original trapping location.

Return all loaned traps by the following Saturday to receive a full refund of your deposit. If you still have cats that need to be trapped, you will need to make an appointment for another week and pick up traps, if needed, the Saturday before your next scheduled appointment.

Below is a video demonstrating the setup process of the traps Street Cat HUB loans out to the public.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Cats/kittens may not be owned; this service is for free-roaming outdoor cats only.

  • Cats/kittens must be a minimum of 2 pounds and healthy enough for spay/neuter.

  • Cats/kittens will be fixed and returned to you. We do not take surrenders of social cats/kittens or relocate feral cats.

  • All cats/kittens will be ear-tipped (ear-tipping explained).

Ill OR INJURED CAT

KITTENS

  • We do not accept requests for kitten surrenders; we provide spay/neuter with return only.

  • Do not trap kittens under 2 pounds (roughly 8-10 weeks) unless you are prepared to house them yourself or have already arranged them entry to a shelter or rescue.

  • We encourage you to socialize feral kittens if you want to reduce the number of stray cats in your neighborhood and improve the odds you’ll be able to find them a home or shelter/rescue placement. This is easiest before they’re 7 weeks old. If you wait until they’re older than that they may be permanently feral.
