The First Two Weeks of June at Street Cat Hub
Street Cat Hub has had a very full first two weeks of June. Looking back at the last two weeks, it is hard to believe how many cats, kittens, traps, surgeries, and sick little ones came through our doors.
Two weeks ago, we received 15 kittens from a hoarding house situation. Four of those kittens were extremely ill and needed round-the-clock care, including syringe feeding. The other 11 kittens had upper respiratory infections and eye infections. They are all being treated now. Once they reach 2 pounds, they will be spayed or neutered and moved one step closer to adoption.
The adult cats in that home were also in bad shape. They received treatment too, and we are grateful they are now safe and getting the care they needed.
And things have not slowed down.
Last week, over 220 cats were brought to Street Cat Hub. Of those cats, 193 had surgery. That means 193 cats were spayed or neutered, which means fewer litters born outside into hunger, illness, weather, and danger.
The week started with over 100 cats brought in Sunday for Monday surgery. By the end of Monday, 67 cats had surgery.
Then came more kittens. Over 20 kittens were surrendered to foster care, along with one mama cat who gave birth after being trapped. Fifteen kittens came from a trapping project in the Town of Bernalillo. They arrived with eye infections and upper respiratory infections, so treatment started right away.
On Tuesday, about 40 rescue kittens had surgery. That same day, another mama cat from an Albuquerque trapping job gave birth to six kittens.
By the end of the day Tuesday, over 150 cats were in the building. Wednesday brought over 80 more surgeries.
We also found four microchipped cats. Owners were contacted, and one sweet boy was reunited with his family.
Most cats have now gone home. The remaining kittens went to rescues and shelters for care and future adoption.
Street Cat Hub needs donations, kitten food, cat food, and supplies. Every can, every bag, and every dollar helps us keep going.
